Building ADUs for Oakland

Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services (RNHS) is excited to announce the launch of Keys to Equity, a new program in Oakland that helps simplify the process for constructing an ADU or bringing an ADU up to code on your property by:

  • Streamlining the permitting process for homeowners
  • Offering extensive education and application support
  • Offering access to customized financial products,
  • Offering affordable construction services
  • Providing pre-designed ADU architecture plansĀ  developed in collaboration with local homeowners

Developed in collaboration with RNHS, Self Help Credit Union, The WellNest Company, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the City of Oakland, and the San Francisco Foundation, Keys to Equity serves homeowners in Oakland, with a focus on Black households, who want to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their property or bring an existing structure up to code. This program aims to remove barriers to ADU development and create pathways to greater financial stability for local homeowners, while increasing the supply of housing that is typically more affordable to local residents. creating naturally affordable housing for tenants.
